How to use the Compress PDF

  1. Choose a PDF.
  2. Pick a target size or quality level.
  3. Compress, check the new size, and download.

Good to know

  • Common limits: income-tax portal attachments 5 MB, many bank KYC uploads 1–2 MB, passport and government recruitment portals often 200–500 KB.
  • Compression here re-draws each page as an image, so it works best on scans and photos. A text-only PDF exported from Word is usually already small; check the original size first.
  • If you can't get under the limit, remove pages you don't need (blank pages, T&Cs) and compress again.

About this tool

Scanned PDFs are mostly images, so lowering their resolution and JPEG quality cuts size a lot. Pages become images, so text in the output can't be selected. Files are opened and processed by your own browser. Nothing is uploaded, so bank statements, ITRs and ID scans stay on your device.

Questions people ask

Why can't I select text after compressing?

To get scans small, each page is re-drawn as an image. Keep the original if you need selectable text.

How small can a PDF get?

A typical one-page scan reaches 100–200 KB at readable quality. Many pages need a larger limit or lower quality.
