About this tool
You contribute 12% of basic + DA. Your employer also pays 12%, but 8.33% (on wages up to ₹15,000) goes to the pension scheme (EPS), so only the rest reaches your EPF.
Worked example
With monthly basic + da of ₹30,000, current age of 28, retirement age of 58, yearly salary increase of 7%, epf interest rate of 8.25% and current epf balance of ₹2,00,000:
| EPF at retirement | ₹2,32,12,213 |
| Your contributions | ₹40,80,706 |
| Employer's EPF share | ₹36,30,886 |
| Interest earned | ₹1,53,00,621 |

3.67% of basic goes to EPF and 8.33% of up to ₹15,000 (max ₹1,250 a month) goes to EPS. Above that wage, the excess goes to EPF.
Is EPF interest tax-free?
Yes, unless your own contribution exceeds ₹2.5 lakh a year (₹5 lakh if the employer doesn't contribute); interest on the excess is taxable.
