About this tool
Uses a real (inflation-adjusted) return so the FI number stays in today's money. A lower withdrawal rate is safer for long Indian retirements.
Worked example
With yearly expenses of ₹9,00,000, safe withdrawal rate of 3.5%, current investments of ₹20,00,000, yearly investing of ₹6,00,000 and real return after inflation of 5%:
| Years to financial independence | 20.3 years |
| FI number | ₹2,57,14,286 |
| Times yearly expenses | 28.6 × |

Questions people ask
What is the 4% rule?
A US study found a 4% first-year withdrawal, raised with inflation, survived 30 years in most periods. For longer horizons or higher inflation, 3–3.5% is more cautious.
What is a real return?
Return minus inflation. A 11% return with 6% inflation is roughly a 5% real return.
