About this tool

Start from the EMI your budget allows rather than the loan a lender offers. This is the safer way to size a home or car loan.

Formula: P = EMI × ((1+r)^n − 1) ÷ (r·(1+r)^n)

Worked example

With emi you can afford of ₹30,000, interest rate of 9% and tenure of 20 years:

Loan amount₹33,34,349
Total repayment₹72,00,000
Total interest₹38,65,651

Questions people ask

How much EMI can I afford?

A common guideline is to keep all EMIs under 40% of take-home pay, leaving room for savings and emergencies.

Does a longer tenure increase how much I can borrow?

Yes, but with sharply higher total interest. Compare the total repayment line.
